What does Emotional Billionaire mean?

People can imagine a million dollars, but a billion is really hard to comprehend. Being an emotional billionaire means I experience an incomprehensible-to-most amount of love, joy and emotional robustness. For the 21 years my husband and I have been together, every single day has been wonderful and filled with closeness and connection. We have not experienced any of the downs most couples report.

Humans learn by mimicking models, but we are fed the wrong aspirations. It’s a steady stream of what capitalism values: financial wealth, status from consumption, sacrificing your time to work, pretending to be strong, and making your life about productivity. While we have examples of people being in peak physical condition, we have few for peak emotional condition.

Our stories that are supposedly about happiness, fairy tales, end with “happily ever after” but with no content of what that looks like. Our stories end once the conflict is resolved and at most we get a montage of people looking happy. Our media believes that it is boring to watch happiness. But it is because people do not know actual happiness so they do not know how to write it.

So I’m here to rep for and talk about emotional wealth. To encourage you to aim for real confidence and joy, not a performance of it. I put together a list for you of examples of what is in my emotional ‘portfolio’ so you can see what it looks like to have robust emotional resources.


I want you to be able to:

  • Easily identify what you need and desire.

  • Know yourself profoundly, including how you digest feelings and information.

  • Not be scared of other people and not worry about rejection.

  • Say what you are thinking and feeling.

  • Feel confidence continuously (not arrogance) with an accurate sense of your own capabilities.

  • Feel loved and be filled with love for others.

  • Have your head filled with lovely and warm thoughts instead of self-doubt and criticism.

  • Feel that your days are filled with meaning.

  • Access joy throughout each day.

  • Love being yourself!
